Breaking the Pattern
Gosh, I am just so thankful to be a portrait photographer.
One of the most amazing gifts as a creative is the opportunity to work on personal projects, play, and push boundaries. You can literally try anything you want. There’s nothing stopping you. Too often, we limit ourselves because we’re afraid to fail. I’ve done that for a long, long time. What a waste. I’ve worked hard to break that pattern over the last few years and I still (on the daily) have to make a conscious effort to push forward when my natural inclination is to step back into a “safer” place.

One of the silver linings I’m choosing to find in CoVid is that I’ve had a little extra time for some ideas to percolate and, finally, start to come about. I feel a new wave of creativity coming and I’m so excited and grateful.

When I was named a Sony Alpha Female Creator-in-Residence, I received some amazing gear, including the new Sony a7rIV and the incredible 135mm 1.8gm lens. Both tools are already making a difference in my client work, but I am literally GIDDY at the thought of really taking advantage of what they’re capable of with some upcoming concept shoots that I’m working on...just for me! I can’t wait to try some new things, push the gear, and work in even more detail with those gorgeous Sony files.

I’m ESPECIALLY excited to be working with this sweet girl again! Abby’s always literally game for anything and such a joy to be around. Her energy is 100% contagious! Together with Liam’s amazing help, we’re designing outfits and sets specifically for this bound-to-be-epic session...I. CAN’T. WAIT!!! I hope you’ll follow along as I share the process. Hopefully, this will be just the beginning of some amazing new things we’ll be able to offer at the studio. If not, well then I will have tried, had fun doing it, and I’ll be one step closer to the next great thing!
